iMetrikus Announces MetrikLink
First Ever Tele-Monitoring Tool to Support Data Uploads from Multiple
Glucose Meters
Carlsbad, CA, November 5, 2001 -- iMetrikus, Inc., announced
today the launch of MetrikLink, a new disease management and connectivity
tool for people with chronic diseases or health conditions to monitor.
Using a standard telephone line or a serial PC connection, MetrikLink
seamlessly connects users to their healthcare professionals for the uploading
and transfer of health data including blood glucose readings and insulin
use. With the push of a button, anyone with access to a phone line can
upload accurate diagnostic metrics directly to their secure personal health
record shared with their healthcare professional.
Designed to reach the broadest range of patients with varying technical
abilities, iMetrikus created a universal interface to support data uploads
from most commercially available glucose meters. Now, patients are no
longer limited in their choice of how they monitor this health information.
MetrikLink is built for use in the patient's home and includes adapters
needed to upload data from the leading blood glucose meters. Additionally,
iMetrikus has developed MetrikLink accessories for use in medical offices,
clinics and retail settings. Accessories include adapters for all supported
glucose monitors and insulin pumps.
Before MetrikLink, there was no way for patient populations to upload
complete and accurate glucose test results from multiple meters into a
single, pivotal point of data monitoring. Using a versatile communication
method, an open interface library, and a common reporting platform, MetrikLink
solves the problem of patient connectivity by linking patients with key
members of the healthcare team.
"Access to self-monitored data is critical in the management of
chronic disease. MetrikLink helps patients and providers by providing
an easy to use data access and common reporting platform for supporting
the treatment plan and monitoring patient progress," commented Rose
Higgins, iMetrikus senior vice president of products and marketing. "iMetrikus
is committed to extending our universal interface library to include support
for blood pressure cuffs, digital scales, and other personal health monitoring
tools."
MetrikLink extends the reach of healthcare professionals in the care
and management of their patients. Monitoring patients between healthcare
encounters improves the quality of care while helping to reduce the costs
associated with potential complications. MetrikLink enhances the reach
of iMetrikus' suite of secure, interactive compliance monitoring tools
by addressing the unique connectivity challenges of patients with chronic
disease.
With MetrikLink, patients, clinicians, and healthcare companies can realize
the following benefits:
- Transmit self-monitored data over standard phone lines
- Receive complete and accurate test results from any supported glucose
meter
- Avoid the costly problems of error-prone manual logs
- Keep comprehensive audits of all log entries for each patient
- Streamline the Medicare reimbursement process with an auditable, automated
glucose logbook
"With heightened awareness of the importance of controlling blood
glucose levels, along with the proliferation of glucose meters now on
the market, patients have more choices than ever before," commented
Timothy Bailey, MD, FACE, iMetrikus' advisor on diabetes issues and a
practicing endocrinologist. "However, as a physician, my office can't
keep track of all various versions of data systems currently available.
With its common patient and physician interface, centralized data management,
and secure patient records, iMetrikus has solved the problem of seeing
this crucial health data in a comprehensible way."
