iMetrikus® AirWatch® Honored at the National Health, Wellness and Prevention Conference
Carlsbad, CA , June 15, 2007 - The iMetrikus® AirWatch® respiratory monitor was recognized at an award presentation May 1st during the 2007 National Health, Wellness, and Prevention Conference (NHWPC), in Las Vegas. The NHWPC Awards recognize excellence and advancement in service, product, and programs that enhance healthcare quality. AirWatch was honored in the ‘Best Self-Monitoring Health Initiative or Device’ category.
“We are thrilled that AirWatch has received this industry recognition award” said Matt Sanders, CEO of iMetrikus, Inc. “AirWatch is helping to improve the health and well being of many who live with chronic respiratory conditions, like asthma. It is the kind of health problem that impacts millions of people, and iMetrikus is working hard to make a difference in their lives.”
AirWatch is a low-cost, FDA cleared device designed for the remote, self-monitoring of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The electronic AirWatch collects and stores objective measures of personal lung function (PEF, FEV-1), displays the information in an easy-to-understand green, yellow, red “safety zone” chart, and transmits the data from home to authorized members of the healthcare team. AirWatch enables the patient and care team to easily follow a treatment plan, identify triggers and trends, and guide medication decisions in order to help prevent a crisis before it occurs.
AirWatch also uploads measurements from home with a single button press over a standard telephone line. The information is securely held and viewed in MediCompass®, iMetrikus’ web-based personal health management system. Patients and healthcare professionals can immediately access the data upon upload and see personal status charts and reports. Mr. Sanders also noted, “AirWatch and MediCompass can help improve the way information is shared and decisions are made among patients, doctors and health coaches. The results can be dramatic in terms of quality of patient care and lower costs.”
A Massachusetts-based study noted the effectiveness of using AirWatch in a treatment program for patients with severe asthma. Over an 18 month period, the study observed a decrease in the total number of emergency room visits from 84 to 1. The total number of in-patient hospital days decreased from 114 to 3. Estimated average emergency room charges were reduced from $2,656 to $32, and average hospital charges were reduced from $4,380 to $120 for equivalent pre- and post-program periods.1
