iMetrikus Announces Release of MediCompass
Specialized Resources for a Range of Clinicians and Providers
Include Multi-disease Tracking and Multi-language Support
Carlsbad, CA, June 12, 2001 -- iMetrikus today announced
the release of MediCompass, a suite of interactive applications for fast,
easy access to clinical data to help physicians and healthcare professionals
optimize treatment plans and improve patient adherence and compliance.
MediCompass provides a platform for collaborative health management based
on a patient's personal health record.
Created for physicians, nurses, diabetes educators, case managers, pharmacists
and other members of the healthcare team, MediCompass delivers interactive
applications with support for medical device uploads that help with monitoring
patient records to identify compliance trends and patterns, status changes,
and opportunities for intervention.
"Before MediCompass, Scripps patients with diabetes were forced
to track their glucose test results manually or create separate records
for individual monitors," said Dr. George Dailey, division head,
diabetes/endocrinology at Scripps Clinic in San Diego. "The interactive,
collaborative features offered through the MediCompass suite are helpful
for both professionals and patients. These consistent tools and data views
enable our staff to assist the patients to take better control of their
health."
MediCompass includes special features for monitoring diabetes, HIV/AIDS,
and cardiovascular conditions such as CHF, CAD, and Hypertension. Also
included is the ability to engage a broad cross-section of patients who
may not use English as a first language. Because of the flexibility of
the iMetrikus XML architecture and the design of the iMetrikus dynamic
page generation technology, MediCompass Web pages can be presented concurrently
in multiple languages to multiple users. Spanish is the first supported
language option with French and German soon to follow.
"As a disease management company, our goal at Diabetex is to make
sure our patients comply with their treatment programs and receive the
constant reinforcement they need," commented Merry Day, Diabetex'
vice president, corporate operations. "By using the MediCompass application,
we are able to more efficiently serve the broadest range of patients,
across a wide geographic area, in both Spanish and English. We improve
clinical quality while at the same time we reduce spending."
MediCompass Background
Anticipating the need for a highly targeted, interactive, Web-based approach
that links patients, physicians, and healthcare companies, iMetrikus developed
a sophisticated, secure clinical data repository that delivers personalized
information and facilitates ongoing collaboration using XML Web technologies.
Prior to the release of MediCompass for healthcare professionals, iMetrikus
launched MyHealthChannel, its patient-centric personal health record that
allows members to create and maintain a secure, anonymous and evolving
online health record.
Having been tested and proven by a rapidly growing community of users,
the release of MediCompass will link the community of healthcare professionals
with MyHealthChannel members who have chronic conditions and who strive
to take better control of their health.
Fundamental to establishing the platform of patient-provider collaboration
is the Record Key, a secure program that allows patients to grant health
record access privileges to individual members of their healthcare team.
Utilizing MediCompass, healthcare providers can add additional medical
information as well as access reports and graphs to better understand
patient health patterns.
MediCompass Broadens Resources for Clinicians and their Patients
Use of MediCompass can also improve physician-patient communication and
supports consultation with multiple practitioners with the ability to
send text prompts, alerts, and reminders. Clinicians will be able to view
a variety of customized graphs and reports that include uploaded test
results, blood pressure, weight, lab results, self-tests, medication use,
and other health indicators.
MediCompass has an integrated monitoring appliance library that supports
upload of data from commercially available blood glucose meters, as well
as insulin pumps. Unlike most other online health records, MediCompass
supports a broad spectrum of data uploads making the service more useful
to broader patient populations and more consistent for clinicians.
