Thompson to Speak at Healthy
People 2010
Will
Serve on Panel Discussing Internet and Healthcare
Carlsbad,
CA, January 24, 2000 -- Dr. Peter Thompson, M.D., FACP, FACPE,
will present at a session, The Internet and Healthcare: Changing
Provider Patient Relationships, at Healthy People 2010: Partnerships
for Health in the New Millennium, Jan. 28, in Washington, D.C. Dr. Thompson
is the president and CEO of iMetrikus, an e-health company that provides
an Internet-based, interactive health management solution for patients,
physicians and supporting organizations involved in the treatment of chronic
diseases.
Healthy
People 2010 will set the healthcare agenda for the next decade, and there
is no better forum to express the power of how e-health Web sites can
support the consumer healthcare revolution, Dr. Thompson said. For
years we've heard how the Web will dramatically improve our lives. We
developed MyHealthChannel and ThePhysicianChannel to meet that promise
by giving consumers personalized, customized and effective control of
their healthcare.
Dr. Thompson
will define e-health sites and how they are different than previous generations
of Internet healthcare sites. He also will describe how e-health sites
can transform the way consumers navigate their healthcare challenges by
linking together patients, physicians and the medical industry.
Dr. Thompson
founded Chiron Informatics in 1997 and served as vice president, general
manager. He also has served as vice president, research and technology
development, of Becton Dickinson Company.
Dr. Thompson
is a board-certified medical oncologist and internist trained at the National
Cancer Institute and Yale, respectively. He received his medical degree
from Brown University, and is a mathematician by training.
The Internet
and healthcare breakout session is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 28, from
8:30 to 10 a.m. at Healthy People 2010 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington,
D.C.
Sponsored
by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Healthy People 2010
brings together the public and private sector to promote the development
of interactive telecommunication and computer technologies that help consumers
take greater responsibility for their health.
