iMetrikus Chooses
Wireless Knowledge to Create Mobile Health Management Application
Wireless
Solution To Ease Online Patient Diagnostics Reporting
San Diego, CA,
January 8, 2001 -- Wireless Knowledge Inc., a Microsoft Corporation
(NASDAQ: MSFT) and QUALCOMM Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM) company, today announced
plans to develop a wireless solution for iMetrikus, developer of MyHealthChannel.com
and a provider of eCare and patient CRM solutions, creating a new class
of online healthcare monitoring. The solution, which will be available
in the first half of 2001, will enable patients and caregivers to upload
personal diagnostics from any Internet-enabled device - allowing for more
frequent health readings and patient mobility.
Today, patients and
caregivers are tied to the desktop PC - using a cable connection to transfer
diagnostics from various metrics devices like blood glucose monitors.
For example, blood glucose data is sent to sites like MyHealthChannel.com
where it is read, analyzed, sent directly to doctors or caregivers, and/or
maintained in an overall comprehensive, personal health file. iMetrikus
is collaborating with Wireless Knowledge to move these types of data transfers
to mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and a wide variety
of other Internet-equipped wireless devices, affording patients more freedom
while still maintaining a comprehensive, quality environment.
"The primary
purpose of the iMetrikus solution is to motivate patients to participate
more in their own treatment, and to provide a structure for more effective
communication with their healthcare team - ultimately leading to improved
outcomes," said Harvey R. Colten, M.D., president and chief medical
officer of iMetrikus. "In working with Wireless Knowledge, we are
taking Internet diagnostics to the next level by granting patients the
freedom to send and receive data -- from wherever they are, as often as
needed -- to monitor their medical condition."
"Building this
custom wireless solution with iMetrikus will provide their healthcare
partners and patients with unparalleled ease of use in uploading and downloading
diagnostic data to mobile devices," said Eric V. Schultz, chairman
and CEO of Wireless Knowledge. "Healthcare is becoming a hot market
for wireless applications that can truly make a difference and help to
save lives. This win further strengthens our expertise in this growing
area."
